Leave it to Safety 1st.  to write manuals that even a 10 month old can understand.  Yes Alessandra is one smart little cookie-at least to this proud grandparent- but reading a car seat manual at 10 months admittedly is a stretch.  She needs at least another month for that!  (lol).

Nevertheless, Allie’s development curve has accelerated greatly just in the last two weeks. She’s crawling, mostly backwards at the moment, racing around in a walker, picking herself up to stand, eating practically everything, and throwing kisses to everyone she loves without prompting.  Allie enjoys going outside to feel the wind in her face, hearing the birds chirping, and laughing like crazy when being pushed on a swing in the park.   

By the way, I just changed to a Safety 1st. Air Infant Car Seat from a SnugRide infant car seat system.  It has double layered side impact protection, terrific padded support for the neck and head, and it looks sharp in my car. I have it stalled rear facing for now.  Installation was a snap once Allie read the instructions to me…just kidding!

Yesterday I came across a gift card message that touched my heart. Among the many I see each day, this  particular gift message stood out for its warmth and creativity. It reads:

“Odene,

Kharyss is the baby you will carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart til the day you die. Enjoy your child as it grows inside you and I wish you a safe delivery.

love always S.D.” (gift givers name left out for privacy)

I don’t know about you, but reading this message gives me goose bumps.  It reinforces something I always felt as a designer of baby gifts.  The gift card message attached to a baby gift is every bit as important and memorable as the gift itself.  However beautiful and unique a baby gift is, it is just a good looking product without a heartfelt message expressing your joy and good wishes for baby and the new parents. 

With that I decided to add a new feature to this blog called “The Best Baby Gift Messages”.    As a baby gift company shipping scores of gifts each day, we have the opportunity to read lots of gift messages.  My staff and I will select the very best ones and publish them here on a regular basis.  They will be presented in a “Top Ten” format,  borrowing from David Letterman’s popular nightly feature.

At a minimum,  the messages will give babygiftcreations customers ideas on what to say in their gift cards.  But My hunch is that everyone will love reading them, especially if they are as moving and interesting as the one above.

It’s been a year to remember with  Allie so far.   I’m truly blessed to be able to spend quality time with her,  including days when I take her to work with me.  Each new day brings another first or moment to treasure.  Just yesterday Richard and I took Allie to the playground and put her on a swing.  She’s nine months and a big  girl now so we’re able to swing her higher.  The higher Allie went the more she laughed with wide-eyed excitement.  The joy on her face is something we’ll never forget.

My precious time with Allie inspired the creation of yet another unique baby gift from Silly Phillie®.   It’s called  “A Year to Remember”.   This beautiful new baby gift includes 12 baby bibs,  each one featuring a different month in baby’s  first year,  and a keepsake Forever Baby Book Photo Album.   The idea is for parents to use the bibs as “props” to take a photo each month on baby’s birthday.  At the end of the year the parents will have 12 fantastic photos of their baby celebrating a birth month,  plus a fabulous album to display these and other photos from baby’s first year.  Now how’s that for a great baby gift idea!

I fondly remember spending lots of time  with my babies at the changing table. Did you know that a baby requires up to ten changes a day during the first several months!  Now with my granddaughter Alessandra I’m spending more time and enjoying it even more than I remembered.  Allie loves it too…smiling and playing the entire time.

This inspired me…why should such a precious moment for baby and mom (grandma & even dad) be spent on a bland changing pad.  Let’s face it, changing pads are practical but borrring!  Not any longer.  I call our new line of changing pads Time for a Change™.  The name of course is a clever play on words, which Silly Phillie® is noted for. But it also captures the fact that for the first time a changing pad is exciting and fun, too!

I'm 5 Months already!

Babies grow so, so fast.  It seems every time you turn around during that magical first year another milestone is reached, another development stage kicks in.  That’s why it’s so important for new parents to make a record of each.  For our beautiful and delicious  Alessandra,  her parents  have chosen to take a unique photo each month on her birthday.  What a wonderful way to capture  how she looked from one month to another and to preserve the changes that a single month brings in the life of their baby.  These are memories easily forgotten unless you capture them in a photo.   That’s our “Ali-girl” celebrating the fifth month of her birth wearing what else…a Silly Phillie®  bib!

Kristina’s baby shower centerpieces are  done!  Even though the baby shower is not for another couple of weeks,  I wanted to make sure they were designed, assembled,  packed and ready to go.  They came out looking absolutely adorable, even if I must say so myself!

The design theme for the shower is  ”pink & blue” because we don’t know what Kristina is having.   I choose to use white rocking chairs, plush bears, yellow flowers, and chocolate covered sunflower seeds (yummy!).  Boy,  it helps to have a baby gift business at your disposal when making baby shower centerpieces.

The main baby shower centerpiece  needed to be extra special,  partly because it’s the first thing guests will see as they enter the room,   and partly because this will be Kristina’s  keepsake.   For this one I used a larger child sized Rocking Chair and large plush bear with “Kristina’s Baby Shower” embroidered on the bear’s t-shirt.

Each  guest table will be decorated with a  similar but smaller looking  baby shower centerpiece.  As you can see from the photo below,  I  embroidered the word “baby” on the bear’s t-shirt instead of “Kristina’s Baby Shower”.  Since these cuties will be given away as  prizes to winners of planned baby shower games  I thought the generic “baby” worked best all things considered.

Just a quick post to announce that the winner of the March 2012 Babies R Gifts Photo Contest is Tabassom (please see photo below).  This precious little girl outpaced all other contestants receiving a total of 70 votes during the month. March 2012 Photo Contest Winner!

March has arrived (bye, bye winter), so it’s time for me to announce the results of  February’s  Babies R Gifts™ Photo Contest.   João Pedro, a delightfully expressive baby boy, won with a total of 221 votes,  beating all other contestants by a fairly large margin.

And who could argue with this outcome?  As you can see from his photo,  João Pedro is overflowing with personality and charm.  The submitted tweet about João Pedro is:  ”his expression makes everyone laugh”, and that seems to be an appropriate description for this bundle of joy.

Kristina's sonogram at 5 months

Several months ago my husband and I received the best gift ever …after our two beautiful sons of course.  It was this little box with a ribbon on top.   Jonathan & Kristina said that it was just a little something. Well, that  ”JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING”  turned out to be a sonogram photo showing the beginnings of our first grandchild!!

Here’s a photo of Kristina at five months.  She’s doing great, looking fabulous, and getting bigger. We don’t know what we’re having yet because we all love surprises. More exciting news to come….
